Shakespeare by the Book: Four Centuries of Printing, Editing, and Publishing

February 22 - December 30

Harrison-Small Building, UVA Central Grounds

The University of Virginia presents an exhibition to celebrate the vibrant, complex, and sometimes contentious history of bringing Shakespeare’s works into print. From early editions to contemporary artists’ books, and from massive folios to micro-miniature editions, the exhibition offers visitors a glimpse into the varied riches of the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library’s Shakespeare collections. Installed in our main gallery, the exhibition includes over 100 volumes.

The University of Virginia Shakespeare by the Book exhibition will be open from February 22 to December 30. From October 1-26, the exhibit will also be the backdrop for the visiting exhibition “First Folio!” from the Folger Shakespeare Library. For more information about the exhibition, visit library.virginia.edu/exhibitions/ and choose “Upcoming”.
